The Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley arrived back in the country from New York today. He was in New York to attend the 67th UN General Assembly.

“The trip was a success,” said Lyonchhoen in a press conference which was held shortly after his arrival.

However, Lyonchhoen expressed concerns over Bhutan’s bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. The elections for the seat will be held next Thursday where Bhutan will have to compete against countries like South Korea and Cambodia.

“Efforts to solicit support of other countries are continuing,” said the Prime Minister.  He said the Minister In-charge for Foreign Affairs, Khandu Wangchuk, is still overseas lobbying for the support.
