The outgoing Ambassador of Japan and concurrently to Bhutan, Akitaka Saiki, called on Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y. Thinley at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang today.

Ambassador Saiki thanked Lyonchhoen and the Government, and also extended appreciation and gratitude to their Majesties the Kings for the tremendous support rendered during his short tenure as the Ambassador to Bhutan.

Ambassador Saiki informed Lyonchhoen that the Royal Visit to Japan by Their Majesties the King and Queen preceded by Lyonchhoen’s visit has further strengthened the friendship ties between the two nations. “Our two countries have been very close, co-operative and will remain to be unconditional partners,” said the Ambassador.

Lyonchhoen congratulated Ambassador Saiki for bringing great satisfaction personally and professionally both in spirit and substance. Lyonchhoen also thanked the Ambassador for responding to the needs of Bhutan and informed ambassador Saiki that the overall 10th FYP has been successful. “We hope for an extensive collaboration in the 11th FYP and continue to co-operate,” said Lyonchhoen.

Akitaka Saiki was appointed Ambassador of Japan to India and concurrently to Bhutan in February 2011. Before this appointment he was

Director-General, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, with the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in the USA.
