The opposition party says the government needs to revisit and streamline protocols for importing and quarantining of foreign workers. The party said it should be constantly updated. A press release from the party says the government should have been mindful and vigilant of the outbreak of omicron cases in the region.

Dorji Wangdi, Opposition Leader, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa

“We are convinced that the outbreak of the Omicron from Wangdue Phodrang was caused directly by the import of foreign workers under bubble mode. Under this mode number one, the foreign workers were exempted from the mandatory 72-hour RT-PCR and also, they were not required to undergo antigen test, two the workers were transferred directly to the project site that is in the interior part of the country. And three despite knowing the outbreak of Omicron in India, a month before bringing the workers the government did not rather the government failed to streamline and update our health and labor protocols and regulations.”
