Dagana Tshechu ended yesterday. But many people were not able to witness the annual festival since it was a closed-door event due to the pandemic. Now, people there say the local cable operator should try to broadcast the most important event of the year.

It is just the performers who are part of the Tshechu. There were very few spectators. Since last year the festival has been organized inside the Dzong amid the pandemic. This year, it is the same depriving many of the blessings and festivities.

“I came here about two years ago but never got the opportunity to witness the Tshechu. I would be happy if it could be broadcast on the local cable TV,” said Norbu Choden, a Dagana resident.

“I would not be able to watch on the phone. So it would be better on TV,” said Dawa Dem.

The dzongkhag administration spoke with the local cable operator but it was not possible.

Dagana Dzongda, Duba said, “I discussed with him if he has got the facility to capture the ongoing Tshechu and then relay through the local cable channel but he has got no cameras and he said that he can’t hire from anyone. That is how the idea got dropped. It doesn’t mean we have not initiated. We have looked at that option so that people can view the Tshechu virtually.”

The five-day-long Tshechu was cut short to three days since last year.
