The Anti-Corruption Commission has implicated the Gup of Shelnga-Bjemi Gewog in Punakha, his wife and three other individuals in an alleged state land encroachment case. According to the ACC, the gup allegedly misused his power and registered 80 decimal land in his wife’s name.

As per the commission, the alleged plot was not surveyed during the detailed survey of 1991 and the New Sa-Thram Compilation survey 2000.

The commission found that the wife’s grandfather submitted an application requesting to remove the thram as the plot could not be traced.

According to the ACC, the gup wrote an application in 2011 during the National Cadastral Resurvey Program claiming that the alleged plot exists but has been omitted from the map. The gup endorsed the application in his capacity as a gup along with two Sai-Tshogpas. Following that, the gup had identified a state land near his family land as the missing plot. The surveyors and the Sai-Tshogpas had signed the endorsement form thereby endorsing the location and the boundary of the plot on the state land.

On Thursday, the ACC also issued a freeze notice for the particular plot.
