Remote village electrified

Nangla, one of the remote gewogs in Zhemgang, was electrified last month. Until now, the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) provided electricity to the gewog through a generator. The power could only be supplied for 10 hours trough generator, which the villagers say wasn’t enough.

It was also expensive for the BPC. The Deputy Manager of BPC office in Gelephu, Karma Wangchuk, said the supply of electricity to gewog was done through generator since 2009. He said it was expensive as the BPC was spending about Nu.500,000 as against the minimal return of Nu.15,000. He added that it was also difficult to get the fuel for the generator during the monsoon season. But now, people of the four chiwogs under Nangla Gewog will have continuous electricity supply.

Works to electrify the gewog began in 2010 with a budget of Nu.35 million under the rural electrification programme.
