Just about 200 meters stretch left to complete, the road widening works between the View point and the Trongsa town will surpass the deadline of March 2021. The Department of Road in Trongsa is also allowing the contractor to continue the works amidst the lockdown. This will help the contractor expedite the remaining works.

They include formation cutting, construction of drain, and blacktopping. After failing to meet two deadlines, it is just a couple of months before commuters enjoy the ride they have always wanted.

‘‘This stretch of the east-west highway was the worst, but now, the double-lane road is almost complete. It is very convenient for us to travel anytime,’’ said Sangay Dorji, a commuter.

More than anyone, the road has brought about contentments among taxi operators. Kinley, a taxi driver said, ”many were not willing to use the road before, but this problem has become a thing of past now.’’ He added they will also be able to provide better services hereon.

Likewise, traveling along the stretch used to be a nightmare, especially for heavy vehicles. But the almost completed stretch has brought immense joy among the commuters.

Divided into two packages; View point-Bjeezam and Bjeezam-Trongsa town, construction of the 14 kilometers stretch began in 2015 with a deadline of two years. However, failing to complete, it was further extended till the end of 2019.  The Hi-Tech company then took over the project following the termination of the previous contractors.

Meanwhile, upon completion, it will only take some 15 minutes to reach the town from the View point, which used to take almost 45 minutes.
