The Member of Parliament (MP) of Shompangkha asked the Economic Affairs Minister on the status and deadline for completion of Jigmeling Industrial Estate. He requested the Ministry to expedite the process to benefit the community at the earliest.

Jigmeling in Sarpang has an area of 755 acres and is about 12 kilometres away from Gelegphu. The project development works began in 2006.

“It has been many years since the government identified four industrial estates and not even one industry is established till date. Can the government update on the status of the project and when it will be completed?” asked Tek Bdr. Rai the Shompangkha MP.

Economic Affairs Minister said it took time preparing the area for the industrial estate.

“The reason why it got delayed was due to preparatory works. Resources such as water, roads and infrastructure development planning took time. I am hopeful and certain that one or two industry will be established by the end of this year. After that, other works will automatically follow. We have already allocated land for almost 40 people and 8 people have already got their industrial licenses,” informed Loknath Sharma, the Minister for Economic Affairs.

The industries will be based on three natural resources including mineral, forest and food and agro. The project is aimed at promoting private sector development, enhance socio-economic activity and create employment opportunities.
