Windstorm causes havoc in 3 Dzongkhags

(Windstorm Update) Roofs of 19 houses in Wangdue Phodrang have been completely blown-off by a strong windstorm last afternoon. This is as per the latest report received from the Dzongkhag.

The worst affected is Bajothangu village under Thedtsho Gewog. Roofs of 11 houses in the village have been completely blown-off.

Dzongkhag officials of Wangdue Phodrang are still assessing the extent of damages caused by the windstorm. In a phone interview, the Wangdue Dzongrab, Pema, said they received reports of another eight houses being damaged by the windstorm yesterday. He added that few other houses have suffered minor damages.

The Gup of Phangyuel Gewog said the roof of the Phangyuel Lhakhang has also been blown-off.  No casualties were reported as of now.

Meanwhile in Punakha roofs of two houses in Yuwakha chiwog under Barp Gewog have been completely blown-off. Few other houses suffered minor damages.

Over in Zhemgang CGI sheets of 18 houses in Bardo and Shingkhar Gewogs have been completely blown-off. Of the total 16 houses are in Bardo. No casualties have been reported so far. Relief materials are yet to reach the affected Gewogs. Materials have been ordered from Gelephu and will be sent out by tomorrow.

Another windstorm on March 29 hit the three Gewogs of Phangkhar, Bjoka and Trong. It damaged the roofs of six houses in Phangkhar, five in Bjoka and 11 in Trong.
