The Bhutanese team returned home with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze from the Special Olympic World Games 2019 held in Abu Dhabi.

The four athletes from Draktsho Vocational Training Centre for Special Children and Youth represented Bhutan.

Pelden,36, won a bronze medal in the men’s shot-put category. He was also reinstated with a gold medal in a 200-meter race, which was earlier considered disqualified.

Deki Lhaden won a gold medal in the 100-meter race and Chencho Dorji bagged silver in long jump.

This is the third time Bhutan is participating in the event.

More than 7000 participants from 190 countries competed in various sporting events at this year’s Special Olympics World Games.

The Special Olympics are the world’s largest sporting event which focuses on the empowerment of people of determination with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport.

The event was held from March 14 to 21.
