Her Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck graced the grand opening of the “Intersection of Tradition and Innovation: From Pixel to Fabrics” exhibition on Tuesday at the headquarters of the World Bank in Washington, D.C. in the United States. Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck accompanied Her Majesty the Queen Mother. According to the Royal Textile Academy, the exhibition celebrated Bhutan's rich cultural heritage and technological advancements in textiles. Bhutan celebrates Girls in ICT Day with GovTech challenge

Today is International Girls in ICT Day. The day is aimed at inspiring girls and young women to pursue careers in Information and Communications Technology. Globally, there is a huge disparity of women and girls’ representation in STEM-related fields. In Bhutan, there are still challenges with low participation of women and young girls in ICT and STEM fields. To address this, the Government Technology Agency, GovTech, organised a competition for women professionals and college students to encourage their involvement in the ICT fields.

20% of children in Thimphu have H. pylori, according to research

Over 20 per cent of children below six years of age are affected by the helicobacter pylori or H.pylori. This is according to a research which is the first of its kind conducted only in Thimphu last year. H.pylori is a bacteria that increases the risks of developing gastric cancer. The research revealed that poor hygiene and dietary habits were the risk factors for the infection among children. Doctors from the National Referral Hospital said it is not alarming but there is a need to eradicate it to avoid future complications.

JDWNRH’s extended clinical services benefit cancer patients

Cancer patients in the country can now undergo surgeries within two weeks of diagnosis. Thanks to the Extended Clinical Services introduced by the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu. Since the introduction of the service in December last year, surgeons and health workers have performed surgeries on cancer patients during weekends and government holidays. The service aims to reduce patient waiting time and improve service delivery.

Rhododendron bloom draws crowds to Merak Gewog

Merak Gewog in Trashigang, usually known for its rich cultural heritage, is capturing the attention of an increasing number of people for its incredible nature, this time. With the breathtaking bloom of rhododendrons, an increasing number of visitors including tourists are seen visiting the gewog. There are also plans to organise a festival next year.

National Skills Competition prepares youth for WorldSkills Asia

To empower young minds to use their skills for a better tomorrow, the first-ever National Skills Competition was held in Sarpang’s Dekiling Gewog. The five-day event served as a platform for artisans and creative professionals to showcase their talents, preparing them for international competitions. It concluded yesterday coinciding with Zorig Day.

87 and going strong, Dengo relives his heydays
