Measures to tackle gang formation

In order to remove the gang culture amongst Bhutanese youth, the Chief of Police is visiting schools introducing the strategies taken up by the police to curb the problem. One such visit was made at the Dechencholing Middle Secondary School in Thimphu yesterday.

The Chief of Police, Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel, spoke to the students on adverse impact of gang formation and its consequences.

Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said that use of mobile phones in schools is one factor which contributes to gang formation and other organised crimes. To this effect, the Police in co-ordination with the education ministry re-emphasised the ban of mobile phones in schools through a circular.

The students in return pledged not to involve in gang formation and unlawful activities.

The Royal Bhutan Police is also circulating pledge forms to be signed by the students declaring the same.

Likewise, the Royal Bhutan Police plans to visit all schools in the country. But for the schools drop-outs the police have another agenda to tackle this issue.
