Over 2,500 civil servants left the civil service last year. According to the Civil Service Statistics report 2022, the attrition rate almost doubled compared to 2021. It is the highest in the past five years.

Similarly, over 600 civil servants left on extraordinary leave.

According to the Civil Service Statistics report, the attrition rate has increased from 4.82 per cent in 2021 to 8.62 per cent last year.

However, the report does not mention reasons why the civil servants left the system in such huge numbers.

Of the 2,646 civil servants who separated from the system, 1,538 resigned voluntarily or had their contracts terminated, 268 superannuated, and 475 left after their contracts ended.

The education ministry saw 1,130 civil servants leaving their profession followed by the health ministry, which accounted for 269.

However, a total of 1,791 civil servants were recruited last year.

As per the report, there are over 30,000 civil servants in the country.
