NA decides to do away with communication allowance

The National Assembly has unanimously decided to cancel the communication allowance for parliamentarians and heads of constitutional offices. This was decided during the third reading of the Pay Structure Reform Bill today. The Bill initially retained the communication allowance for the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Opposition Leader, Speaker, Chairperson of the Council and Heads of Constitutional Offices.

“We understand that we use the communication allowance for official work, but at the same time, it is not clear how much we really use it for official purposes. We even use it for private work. That’s why I propose to do away with the communication allowance for all,” said Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering.
