PM, ministers and speaker offer chawang to His Majesty The King

The outgoing Prime Minister, Speaker and Cabinet Ministers of the second elected government offered Chhawang to His Majesty The King at the Tashichhodzong yesterday. With this, the government officially completes its five year term.

As per the constitution, an interim government must be instituted within 15 days after the dissolution of the government. The Druk Gyalpo appoints an interim government to function for a period, which shall not exceed ninety days.

The interim government will consist of a Chief Advisor and other Advisors appointed by the Druk Gyalpo.

However, till the establishment of the interim government,the cabinet will continue their office.

As per Article 19 of the constitution, the prime minister and the ministers shall resign from office upon the appointment of the interim government.

The prime minister along with the other National Assembly members surrendered their Kabney and Pata amid a ceremony at the National Assembly hall yesterday afternoon.

They also offered Tashi Moenlam in presence of Dorji Lopen of the Central Monastic Body.

During the last Meet The Press on Monday, Dasho Tshering Tobgay said, upon the completion of its term, the cabinet ministers will hand over all their duty vehicles and other office equipment as well.

The second National Assembly was constituted on August 2 in 2013.
