Samdrup Jongkhar’s Thrompon candidate files petitionThe Thrompon candidate of Samdrup Jongkhar, Sangay Tenzin, who failed to get nominated, submitted a petition to the Dzongkhag election dispute settlement committee, yesterday.

Sangay Tenzin failed to secure the nomination after he secured 39 ‘No’ votes and 35 ‘Yes’, during the Zomdu at Kipse constituency.

He was the only candidate from Kipse constituency.

His petition says he is not satisfied with the zomdu proceeding and did not sign the zomdu result on Friday.

In his seven point petition, Sangay Tenzin said some voters could not vote due to lapses in the draft electorate roll and sought clarifications for several points from the committee.

Sangay Tenzin also said that candidates, be it thrompon or Tshogpa should be seated inside the voting room with officials on duty as observers.

“The former tshogpa from Kipse constituency, who is also re-contesting for Tshogpa, was allowed to move freely and mingle with voters.”

Sangay Tenzin said the former tshogpa did not come to witness the zomdu result, which directly undermines the election procedures. He said the Zomdu result should be nullified based on the election norms.

The Chairman of the committee, Dzongda Tharchen Lhendup said they are reviewing the petition.
