The Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley met with the Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang today.
Lyonchhoen said it was a privilege to welcome Chief Minister Hooda, a distinguished leader representing one of the most progressive states in India. Lyonchhoen said that he has observed with great admiration how the state has made tremendous progress under the Chief Minister’s leadership.
Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who arrived in the country yesterday, leading a 10-member delegation, said he had fruitful meetings with Bhutan’s economic affairs minister and minister for agriculture and forests to collaborate in the areas of agriculture and urban planning among others.
Both the leaders stressed on the importance of cooperation in agriculture.
Chief Minister Hooda said Haryana, with less than two percent of India’s geographical area and population, is the second largest producer of food grain and number one in wheat production.
Lyonchhoen expressed appreciation for their willingness to support Bhutan in the area of agriculture, extending into horticulture and livestock.
He also spoke of urban development as an area that needs attention and said that there is so much to learn from Haryana’s experience.
They discussed other areas of mutual interest and proposed exchange visits between the state assembly members and parliamentarians, and parliament members of Bhutan.
The Chief Minister is on a two-day visit to Bhutan and will leave tomorrow.
