Paro FC won the prestigious Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Memorial Gold Cup. In the finals played yesterday in Phuentshogling, they defeated Three star FC from Nepal by 1-0.
The winning team was awarded a cash prize of Nu 200,000 while the runners up team took home Nu 100,000.
The football championship, which resumed after 12 years, is the biggest sporting event in Phuentshogling.
The championship was popular among football enthusiasts from Sikkim, Kalimpong, Nepal and Bhutan. The tournament was first started in 1975.
Twelve teams from India, Nepal and Bhutan took part in this year’s championship.
