Bad road condition at Yotongla, Tshangkha irks commuters

About hundred metres of road along the Yotongla-Tshangkha stretch remains tattered. Commuters have asked the concerned authority to look into it but there has been no improvement till now.

With the beginning of rainy season, drivers especially are worried that the bad condition of road could pose a risk and damage to their vehicles. People said the condition of the road remains same throughout the year.

A taxi driver, Choda said the concerned authority remained a deaf ear to their repeated request. “We have complained about it several times to the contractors but all went in vain. So it will be better if the government could give specific attention into this issue and resolve it.” he said.

Prasad Bhujel, a commuter who just drove from Bumthang, said the road condition is bad. “Actually, the area of poor road condition is small in length and it can be maintained. Sometimes due to such road condition, small cars are left on the road in times of break down.”

The other contractors have completed their works and the road seems to be good from Thimphu till Tshangkha in Trongsa,” said Namgay, ” But from here the road is really bad and our cars get damaged frequently by this poor condition road. We face a lot of difficulties while repairing our cars.” he added.

The  contractor, whose package of work falls between this stretch, said due to difficult terrain, continuous rainfall and area being marshy, progress of the work gets impeded.

Meanwhile, the Department of Roads office in Trongsa said the contract package falls under the liquidity damage period, which means the contractor works under penalty due to incompletion of work on time.
