Nu 11.7m bailey bridge opens in Sarpang

Information and Communications Minister, D.N Dhungyel yesterday inaugurated the 150ft Kharkhola bailey bridge at Tsheluthang. The bridge connects Sherubling village with Chuzom gewog in Sarpang.

The bridge, which can hold 24 metric tonne, will benefit 140 households. Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister said the new bridge would bring development and economic stability to the people under Chuzom gewog . He advised farmers to work hard and fulfill the nation’s goal of food self-sufficiency by growing agricultural products in large scale.

“Access to road and bridges will be no benefit If you do not work hard,” the Minister said, “to reap benefit from these facilities, every individual should work hard with motivation.”

Residents of Sherubling village are ecstatic to have a bridge and farm road coming to them. They said though their village had access to farm road since few years ago,  they had to travel on foot in absence of motorable bridge over the Kharkhola river to make it to Sarpang dzongkhag and Gelegphu town.

“The motorable bridge will make our life easier. We have been using a temporary bridge till now.” said Parsuram Gurung, from Sherubling village.

“Although we had access to farm road but in absence of motorable bridge, we struggled traveling on foot.” added another villager, Indra Bahadur Mongar.

The laying of steel on the truss bridge over  Kharkhola was carried out by DeSuung, Royal Bhutan Army and engineers from Department of Roads as part of their job training two months ago.
