2 sentenced to life for Chorten vandalism

The Wangdue Dzongkhag court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for vandalising a Namgyel Khangzang Chorten at Tongcholing under Dangchu Geog some ten years ago. The verdict was passed today, after a year-long of thorough investigation and hearings.

The men were charged for offence against the Ku, Sung, Thug-Ten or Zung. The Penal Code of Bhutan states that grading for offence against the Ku, Sung, Thug-Ten or Zung shall be a felony of the first degree. They have taken away a three-eyed Cat Eye or Zee.

Another 80-year-old man was also proven guilty for his failure to report the crime to the lawful authority. He was fined Nu. 9,000 and has to pay within 10 days from the day of Judgment passed.

Meanwhile, another two Jangchub Chorten at Gay-Rey Goenpa in Dangchu Geog was vandalised on Monday night.

The investigation is underway.
