Bridge over Mangdichhu in Bardo Gewog set to complete soon

After missing three deadlines, the motorable bridge over Mangdichhu at Rindigang of Bardo Gewog in Zhemgang is finally set to complete by the end of June this year.

The Department of Road officials in Tingtibi says 90 per cent of the works are complete as of now.

The erection of steel arch pillars for the 115 metre long bridge was completed last week. The engineers are now focused on carrying out the remaining works.

The people of Langdhorbi and Dhigala are eagerly waiting for the bridge to open. “The bridge will make it easier for us to get to many places including the hospital,” Chimi Wangmo from Dhigala said.

“It will be like heaven once the bridge opens,” Dorji Lhamo from Langdhorbi said. “We’ll not have to carry loads on our backs or need horses to help us once the bridge opens.”

Besides Langdhorbi and Dhigala Chiwogs in Bardo Gewog, the bridge will also benefit the people of Duenmang Chiwog in Nangkor Gewog, and those in Trong Gewog.

The construction of the bridge began in 2011 and was supposed to be complete by early 2013, but due to technical glitches with the initial design, the works had to stopped and the structures redesigned, which led to the delays.

The bridge is actually being constructed for the 770 MW Chamkharchhu Hydropower Project in Dhigala.
