Wangdue forest fire: firefighters battle the blaze for second day

Wangdue fire fighting team comprising of armed force personnel, forest and dzongkhag officials, DeSuups and other volunteers are battling the forest fire for the second day.

The fire, which started above Bajo Town at around 3 PM yesterday, has spread to forest near Kumchi village under Phangyul Gewog.  The blaze has destroyed over 1300 acres of forest.

Firefighters said strong winds and rugged terrain are hampering their efforts to contain the fire but they are hopeful to put it out by today only.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
