Agriculture ministry assures help to windstorm victims in Sarpang

The Agriculture Minister, Yeshey Dorji, on April 1 visited windstorm affected gewogs namely Senggye, Gakiling, and Shompangkha and comforted the victims.

The minister told the victims that the agriculture ministry will help them in “every way possible.” On March 29, the windstorm accompanied by hailstones and heavy shower knocked down agricultural crops of 317 households in three gewogs.

It affected 39 livestock farming households and destroyed thousands of areca nut trees, mango trees, and banana and lychee trees among others. The windstorm also blew off roofs of several houses. Among the three gewogs, the hardest hit is Shompangkha where three villages: Darjaythang, Norbugang and Kencholing suffered major damages.
