MoEA’s Chamgzamtog service centre to become start-up centre

The Department of Cottage and Small Industry of the economic affairs ministry will convert its existing Service Centre at Changzamtog in Thimphu to Business Incubation or Start-up Centre soon.

The move is a part of the ministry’s effort to support aspiring entrepreneurs by providing access to affordable infrastructure and other business development services.

Aspiring entrepreneurs can use the facility for two years to set up and run their businesses from.

After the incubation period, new start-ups will take over the spaces. The facility will house 61 business incubation units.

An official from the economic affairs ministry said they want to encourage people, especially unemployed youth, materialise their new business ideas.

Meanwhile, the ministry has already notified the 32 occupants using the service centre to vacate latest by June end.

The occupants had actually signed the lease agreement for 10 years with effect from 2011. They are now planning to write to the ministry about the notice.

The Service Centre was established in the early 90s to provide a space for establishing printing press and automobile workshops among others.
