More undergraduate scholarship this year

With the class XII results out, the scholarship and student support division announced that there are 232 slots for undergraduate scholarship slots this year. For the first time this year, students will get a chance to pursue their studies at a University in Malaysia.

Out of the 232 slots, 30 will be offered at the Royal Thimphu College. The rest are all ex-country scholarships.

According to the Officiating Chief Programme Officer, Tashi Dawa, the increase in undergraduate scholarship this year was because of the good bilateral relations with other foreign countries.

He said Bhutanese students who were selected for the scholarship in previous years have performed well. This has made universities to provide more seats for Bhutanese students.

Meanwhile, Tashi Dawa added that it’s not true when people say that the selections are not done fairly. “The selections are done purely on merit basis.” In one of the earlier interviews on BBS TV he said that everything is merit-based with full ‘conviction’.

The applications for undergraduate scholarship will remain open tillFebruary 13.
