Strengthening cross-border relations

The 9th Border District Coordination meeting between the government of Bhutan and the State Government of Assam, India concluded yesterday in Phuentsholing.

During the two-day meeting, the delegations from both the sides discussed issues relating to strengthening co-ordination between the bordering Dzongkhags of Bhutan and the districts in Assam.

The meeting also deliberated on issues pertaining to local level coordination among the authorities on both sides.  Both the sides acknowledged that the relationship between Bhutan and India is exemplary and emphasised on further strengthening the same.

The meeting was instituted by the governments to discuss and resolve cross border issues. It is held annually. The next meeting will be held in Assam in 2013.

The Bhutanese delegation was led by the Director of the Bureau of Law and Order, Karma TsheringNamgyal, while the Indian delegation was led by JishnuBarua, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary of Home and Political Department of Assam.
