Microsoft’s Office 365 launched in Bhutan

Office 365, Microsoft’s latest online Office suite, will now be available in Bhutan. It was launched in the country on Thursday in collaboration with a local IT firm.

The launch comes nearly five months after Microsoft announced the availability of Office 365 in 10 new markets including Bhutan in November last year.

The Office 365 subscription plans feature popular Office tools, applications, and other productivity services. Explaining the  feature of Office 365, Rena Chai, a Chief Marketing and Operations Officer with Microsoft APAC ( Asia Pacific Alliance Coaches) said  it can work both online and offline.

“For example, if you are in a remote city without connectivity, Office 365 allows you to work off your laptop, tablet or any other devices. Later, when you get connected, it will synchronise your information to the cloud, so all your documents will be updated on to the cloud.”

She added with Microsoft 365, businesses can focus their technical resources to run the core business as they will not have to worry about IT capability and hefty infrastructure investment.

Phub Gyeltshen, the CEO of Yang Khor IT Solutions said Office 365 will benefit a landlocked country like Bhutan where connectivity is a challenge.

Microsoft launched Office 365 in 2011. According to a blog post on Microsoft’s website, Office 365 is now available in 150 markets and 44 languages. Microsoft, which derives a significant share of its revenue from the sale of Office, plans to launch the latest version of its online office suite in 97 new markets over the year.

The blog post also says “more than 1.2 billion people around the world use Office-at school, at work and in their personal lives”.
