Opposition moves the motion on employment issuesThe Opposition moved the motion on employment issues, in the National Assembly today, by saying unemployment situation in the country is turning into a crisis. They said the government needs to address the issue of employment urgently by coming up with concrete measures to tackle it.

Members of Opposition said unemployment situation has worsened, even more so among women than men. They said the government has not worked on proper policies and measures, in the past two years, to ease unemployment.

“The overall employment generation, including overseas employment policy, has not worked. This is where the government has failed,” said Kengkhar-Weringla MP, Rinzin Jamtsho.

A few members of the Opposition said it feels like the government has run out of ideas and measures to solve the issue.

The labour minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo said the country has been able to witness a drop in unemployment rate last year compared to 2013, despite poor economic conditions. “It is a sign of achievement.”

Lyonpo said unemployment issue the government’s biggest concern and that they have allocated more budget to address it.

He also said the labour ministry coming up with new strategies and innovative ideas.
