The European Union (EU) development programmes for Bhutan will triple in 2014 -2020 period as compared to the previous years. The EU will provide a €42 MN package, says a news release from the EU. In 2007-2103 EU had provided €14 MN.
The money will go into strengthening civil society, supporting local governance and developing sustainable rural livelihoods by enhancing food and nutrition security and generating employment opportunities.
The announcement comes prior to the visit of European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, to Bhutan. He will be Bhutan on October 21.
The release also says the EU has taken note of the efforts Bhutan has made to fight poverty and implement constitutional reforms.
