Bhutan to soon have a bio-fertilizer company

The Farm Machinery Corporation Limited (FMCL) and the B&B Korea Co., Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding today. The agreement is aimed at the establishment of Bhutan’s first-ever bio-fertilizer company based at Athang Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang. It is a business idea committed to fulfilling the nation’s aspiration of becoming 100 per cent organic in agriculture for assuring safe and nutrition security.

The minister for Agriculture and Forests, Yeshey Penjor, said this will be a step towards using organic fertilizers for producing organic food for a healthy lifestyle.

“Hereafter, we will be working on the establishment of a bio-fertilizer company in the country. This will improve the accessibility of the farmers to get organic fertilizers, make our agricultural produce organic, nutritious, and even help the economy as we can promote the export of organic produce to the international market,” said Lyonpo.

Lyonpo also said this can create job employment opportunities for the youth in the country.
