Coinciding with the World Environment Day, the second, Help-Shoe-Bhutan, campaign was launched in Thimphu today. Help-Shoe-Bhutan is an initiative taken to reuse and recycle old shoes and distribute them to the needy ones.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck launched the campaign. Her Royal Highness also awarded certificates of appreciation to the supporters of the Help-Shoe-Bhutan.

Help-Shoe-Bhutan was initiated by  ShoeVival. ShoeVival is Bhutan’s first shoe laundry service provider which was started in September last year. The Chief Coordinator of Help-Shoe-Bhutan, Dawa Dakpa, said they were able to distribute 1,300 pairs of shoes after the first campaign. “This time we will try to distribute around 2,000 pairs of shoes.”

As part of the launch, about 70 volunteers went around Thimphu streets collecting old shoes, clothes and toys.
