Commemorative Stamps, celebrating 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The Nehru -Wangchuck Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Thimphu released commemorative postage stamps on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in collaboration with the Bhutan Postal corporation limited on 25th May.

The stamps released was part of the  Government of India’s year-long celebrations, coinciding with the 150th  Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the architect and founder of the modern Indian nation-state. The stamps were released by Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye and Ms.Ruchira Kamboj, Ambassador of India to Bhutan at the Nehru -Wangchuk Cultural Centre.

In Bhutan, the Nehru -Wangchuk Cultural centre, Embassy of India has showcased a series of events to commemorate the birth anniversary of Gandhi. On June 5th this year, as a part of World Environment Day saplings will be planted, dedicated in the memory of Mahatma Gandhiji. The centre started the celebrations on 2nd October 2018 by organising a photographic exhibition “Mohan Se Mahatma Tak’, releasing later commemorative stamps brought out by Government of India and has also launched the Bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi “Vaishnav Jan Toh” sung by Bhutanese Artist Yangchen Drukpa.

The Embassy shall be planting saplings on 5th June, 2019 as part of World Environment Day, dedicated to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi in view of the fact that he always advocated sustainable living in harmony with Nature.
