Lack of adequate facilities affect students of Kidheykhar CS

With an additional enrollment of over 100 students at Kidheykhar Central School in Monggar this year, the school is faced with inadequate infrastructure and amenities to accommodate all the students.

The number of students increased after boarding facility in Gyalpoizhing Central School was lifted.

Currently, there are 700 students in school.

The construction of 200-bed girls and boys hostels and 12-unit classroom, which began in May 2017, was scheduled to complete this January. However, it got delayed by a few more months.

At present, the boys’ hostel, which can accommodate only 64 had to adjust twice its capacity.

“Sharing bed is not much a problem with a friend but it is inconvenient while writing homework and studying,” Phunsho Wangdi, one of the boys, said.

“We are facing difficulties with limited toilets and it is also difficult to maintain cleanliness,” Karma Dorji, another boy, said.

The situation is similar with the girls too.

“This year, we had to share our beds, it is very inconvenient,” Sonam Zangmo said.

“It is not only uncomfortable to share beds but also in case if one gets sick, the other might fall sick too,” Sonam Dema said.

The School’s Principal Tshewang Lhendup says last year it was not much a problem but this year the school had to enrol students from Gyalpozhing and three other new schools.

Due to the shortage of classrooms, students are taught in temporary classrooms and dining hall. And the newly constructed kitchen is also not used in absence of a dining hall.

However, the school authority said, the construction of a dining hall is included in the 12th five-year-plan.
