Govt. to develop the much-hyped Suung Joen app this year

The government will develop the Suung Joen app and carry out its initial testing this year.

The Information and Communications Minister, Karma Donnen Wangdi informed this during the question hour session at the National Assembly, yesterday.

The minister said before introducing the app, all gewog centres need to be equipped with Wi-Fi internet facility.

He added the promise of Suung Joen app will be fulfilled within the five-year term of the DNT government.

“To avail the G2C services, people have to go to community information centres. With Suung Joen app, these G2C services will be available around the premises of the centres via Wi-Fi facility. Also, people don’t want to wear national attire to use this service.

The Bumdeling_Jamkhar MP, Dupthob, while questioning the minister said, in recent press reports, the foreign minister was quoted saying the Suung Joen app will be ready within 120 days of the government’s tenure.

“From what we read in papers, the relevant ministry was not given clear direction and budget for the development of Suung Joen app. Since there is no clarity, we want to know how things are going.”

The pledge to develop Suung Joen app was innumerably highlighted by the government during the recent National Assembly elections.

The app is supposed to allow Bhutanese people to communicate freely without the need to recharge the talk time vouchers on their cell phones.
