When people think of agriculture in the country, they often picture an old farmer toiling away in the sun. This widely held perception discourages young people from getting into agriculture. However, in Phuntshothang Gewog’s Tshokhorling village in Samdrup Jongkhar, a 27-year-old decided to stay back in the village after completing high school in 2016 and try his hand at agriculture. Today, his bean farm is thriving, turning it into a profitable mass bean cultivation venture.

Farmers in Sergithang Gewog’s Tashithang Chiwog in Tsirang have been enjoying bountiful spring chilli production in recent years, fetching them good prices. However, this year, they are facing a setback. Farmers are losing their chilli plants to insects, hampering both chilli production and their income. Spring chilli, which was initially cultivated in 2020 on trial, has become one of the main cash crops in the gewog.

Jadrung Lhakhang in Trashigang’s Khaling Gewog is on the verge of collapse as the walls, both inside and outside, have developed cracks. The structure which is quite old also suffered damages from the earthquake in 2009. While there are no written records about the history of the Lhakhang, it is believed to have been built over 500 years ago by a tax collector named Jadrung, who used it as his residence.

The Thimphu police are investigating three separate burglary cases that took place simultaneously in the capital. Of the three cases, one occurred at the Department of Civil Registration and Census office at Kawangjangsa last night. According to sources, the office reportedly lost a laptop during the incident.

People of Phuentshogling Gewog’s Pachu Chiwog in Chhukha will no longer have to walk for hours to fetch drinking water. Thanks to the completion of a water pumping project, they can now access clean drinking water more easily. The project inaugurated yesterday will benefit about 90 households.
