Young farmer thrives in mass bean cultivation venture

When people think of agriculture in the country, they often picture an old farmer toiling away in the sun. This widely held perception discourages young people from getting into agriculture. However, in Phuntshothang Gewog’s Tshokhorling village in Samdrup Jongkhar, a 27-year-old decided to stay back in the village after completing high school in 2016 and try his hand at agriculture. Today, his bean farm is thriving, turning it into a profitable mass bean cultivation venture.

Government targeting 8% annual GDP growth rate to achieve USD 5bn economy by 2029

The government is targeting an annual GDP growth rate of eight per cent to achieve a five-billion-dollar economy by 2029. During the meet the press session today, Finance Minister, Lekey Dorji, said that bringing in 300,000 tourists annually, doubling foreign direct investments, and planned hydropower projects, which are outside the 13th Five-Year Plan will help stimulate the economy.

Khaling’s Jadrung Lhakhang in need of renovation

The structure which is quite old also suffered damages from the earthquake in 2009. While there are no written records about the history of the Lhakhang, it is believed to have been built over 500 years ago by a tax collector named Jadrung, who used it as his residence.
