Conservation fraught with challenges owing to depleting fund

Conserving parks and natural resources is becoming increasingly difficult given the depleting fund, according to forest officials. Conservation has been allocated the least budget of Nu 890 M of the Nu 5 B allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, for the 11th Five Year Plan.

Accused feared drowned while trying to escape

An accused, 42, is feared drowned in Punatshangchhu while trying to escape, at around 10 AM, yesterday. The accused, from Sarpang, was detained for the rape of a minor.

Bhutan sees significant increase in vegetable production

Bhutan’s local vegetable production and export has seen significant increase in four years between 2011-14. While production increased by more than 11,000 metric tonnes, exports jumped four fold in the same period.

Five arrested for cross-border smuggling

Thimphu police arrested a 27-year-old woman and four men, in two different cases, for cross-border smuggling and abusing pharmaceutical drugs which are banned in Bhutan.

Bhutan slips 14 places in FIFA ranking

Bhutan has slipped a whopping 14 places in the FIFA ranking, since it competed in the second round of the World Cup qualifier in June this year. Bhutan is now placed at 173rd position. Prior to the second round qualifier, Bhutan’s ranking was 159.

Two apprehended in counterfeit currency case

Gelegphu Police have detained two men, one Bhutanese and the other one of Indian origin for allegedly trying to exchange Bhutanese currency with counterfeit Indian currency. They were apprehended from the border gate, yesterday.
