His Majesty grants land Kidu in Trashigang

His Majesty the King granted land Kidu to 13,336 thram holders in Trashigang, resolving longstanding land issues in 10 dzongkhags.

Government questioned on budget allocation

The government released a capital budget of Nu.6.5 Billion in the last six months. The parliament had passed the budget in September, last year. The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, during the Question Hour session in the National Assembly, yesterday said they haven’t been able to release sufficient budget to the local government.

Encroachment issue discussed during Question Hour

The people of Soe, Naro and Lingzhi had submitted concern regarding the numerous encroachments for the collection of Cordyceps from across the border. On their behalf, the North Thimphu MP, Kinga Tshering, asked the Home Minister, Damchoe Dorji, on how the government is looking at to address the issue.

In an effort to help curb illegal trade of wildlife, around 47 officials from various enforcement agencies are taking part in the second, “prevention of Wildlife Trade” workshop in Paro.  The participants are learning about the commonly traded species in the international market and how to identify them. The workshop organised by the department of Forest and Park services in Partnership with the International Fund for Animal Welfare- Wildlife Trust of India and Interpol will end on 14th February.

NC Members Skeptical about ESP

The members of the National Council yesterday recommended that sourcing external assistance to fulfill election pledges should be discontinued in future. Members said current Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP) should be the first and last of its kind.

NA discusses Issues submitted by Thimphu Taxi Association

To retain taxi parking at the earlier site was one of the issues submitted by the Taxi Association in Thimphu to the government. In the question hour session of the National Assembly today, the Boomdeling-Jamkhar MP Dupthob asked the Minister for Information and Communications on what the government is doing to resolve this issue.

Drukyul Taekwondo Club from Thimphu won the first ever invitational taekwondo championship which was played over the weekend in Thimphu. Bodoland Taekwondo Club from Assam stood second, and Thimphu Taekwondo Club third. A total of 150 students took part in the championship, including participants from West Bengal, Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, Sikkim, Jaigaon and Darjeeling in India.

Department of Medical services introduced a Bio-Chemistry analyzer machine in Wangdue district hospital. It will provide quick and reliable test results for blood, sugar level, renal function and liver functionality. The machine costs about Nu. 1.6 Million. Similar machines are also installed in Samdrup Jongkhar, Monggar, Trashigang, Gelegphu, Phuentshogling and Thimphu.

Satellite towns now fall under Gewog Administration

The Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes or the Satellite towns shall now be under Gewog Administrations. This was decided at the National Assembly today while deliberating on the Local Government Amendment Bill 2014.

To reduce motor vehicle accidents, the Mangdichhu hydroelectric project and the traffic division in Trongsa introduced the use of speed gun and the breathalyzer. They will help determine the speed of moving vehicles and to check if motorists are driving under the influence of alcohol. The equipment are worth over Nu. 900,000.
