Finance Minister blames previous government for failing SDGP

The Finance Minister, Namgay Dorji, is blaming the previous government for the failure of the fourth phase of the Small Development Grant Project (SDGP). Lyonpo Namgay Dorji said the previous government did not abide by the procedures and guidelines on SDGP that were between the Bhutan and Indian governments.

Bilateral trade agreement prompted lifting of ban, questions MP

The Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk, said the ban on alcohol and furniture was not lifted because of the existing bilateral trade agreement with India as questioned by a Member of Parliament.

Bhutan aims to be in top 100 countries as business destination

Bhutan will be among the top 100 countries in the next two year in the ease of doing business, according to the Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk. Today, Bhutan stands at 141st position of the total 185 countries as reflected in the World Bank report.

Chhuzanggang Gewog gets internet connectivity

The people of Chhuzanggang Gewog in Sarpang embraced the arrival of information and communication technology in their community. The gewog got its first ever internet and Wi-Fi connection on Sunday.

A Blood Donation and Non-Communicable Diseases screening, which will be organized across country, kicked off in Thimphu, today.  The program started off with the Members of Parliament led by Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers at the National Assembly courtyard. Later in the afternoon, the National Council members also donated blood.The seven-day program is organized by the Ministry of Health in commemoration of Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King.

Pay Commission’s report deferred until next session

The Pay Commission’s report on the findings of salary revision of the Public Servants will be presented in the next session of the Parliament. The Finance Minister, Namgay Dorji, informed the National Assembly, today, that the government had given one month time extension to complete their findings.

Bumthang experiences its first snowfall

Schools, government offices and institutions remained closed in Bumthang today as the Dzongkhag experienced its first snowfall of the year. Chhumig and Ura witnessed substantial amount of snow fall as compared to other gewogs.

Foreign Minister leads Bhutanese delegation to SAARC meeting

The 35th session of the SAARC Council of Ministers meeting is being held in Male, the capital of the Maldives. The four-day meeting began today.

National Inception Workshop underway

A three-day National Inception Workshop on Integrating Pay for Environmental Service and REDD+ is underway. It is being organised by the Watershed Management Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and the SNV Bhutan.
