Nanong-Shumar MP takes oath of affirmation

The Member of Parliament from Nanong-Shumar Constituency in Pema Gatshel, Dechen Zangmo formally joined the office today.  The oath or affirmation of office was administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Timber inaccessibility troubles people in Paro

People in Paro say it is getting difficult to get timber to roof their houses. Over 180 houses were damaged in Paro, one of the worst affected dzongkhags by the December windstorm.

Four houses gutted

Four semi permanent houses in Dechencholing, Thimphu were completely gutted by a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Bhutanese trucks operating in India

Two police officials along with owners of trucks have left for Arunachal Pradesh after five Bhutanese trucks were found operating there. This was discovered after a complaint was lodged about a missing truck at one of the Meet the People sessions.

Man on the run nabbed

Thimphu Police nabbed the 23-year-old detainee who was on the run. He was arrested from the town. The man escaped from the Thimphu District Court where he was taken for remand yesterday at around 10:30 am.

With Danish and Bhutanese facilitators, a two day “Project Management Training for Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders” for Community Based Scouts was held in Punakha, last weekend. The training was a joint initiative of the Bhutan Scouts Association and the Danish Scout and Guide Association. Participants were trained in basic project planning, and management. The programme was also a confidence-building exercise. Twenty five Community Based Scouts took part.

Bhutan and India to hold bilateral meeting on trade

Bhutan and India will hold a bilateral meeting on Trade and Transit in Thimphu tomorrow.

Second session of second parliament to begin

The second session of the second parliament will begin from Wednesday. The National Assembly will see the Finance Minister report on the findings of the Pay Commission on the salary raise.

Youth engage in issues of national interest

Twenty youth from different schools in Thimphu met on Friday, in the capital, to discuss issues of national interest and find a youth perspective. Speakers were invited from the Anti-Corruption Commission, the GNH Commission, the National Council, and the media.

The ten-day long volleyball coaching camp in Phuentsholing ended yesterday. With two different age groups of under 14 and under 19, the participants from various schools in Phuentsholing, were taught basic skills and techniques of the game.  A total of 45 students took part in the coaching camp.
