More than 80 people including civil servants, teachers and local leaders registered as members of Friends of Police in Paro, today. This is the 3rd highest response received from the public when compared to other dzongkhags. The Friends of Police initiative aims to strengthen police- public relations and reduce crime. The initiative was started in 2012.

A two day consultation on the National Action Plan for women’s political equality ended in Paro, yesterday. Participants included Members of Parliament, and representatives from relevant agencies. The meeting was held to identify ways to encourage women participation in politics. Awareness programmes on women participation in politics are expected to be organised in the future. The consultation was jointly organized by the UNDP and the National Commission for Women and Children.

Australian Ambassador presents credentials to His Majesty

The Ambassador of Australia to Bhutan, Mr. Patrick Suckling presented his credentials to His Majesty the King this morning.

Appeal submitted to merge Dakphay with Trong

The 17 households of Dakphay village, under Nangkhor Gewog, in Zhemgang, have submitted a written appeal to the dzongkhag administration to amalgamate their village with Trong Gewog. Dakphay is 19 kilometres away from Zhemgang town.

Managing zoonotic diseases symposium ends

To further strengthen the existing collaboration between animal and public health in managing zoonotic diseases, a three-day symposium, with the concept of One Health, was conducted in Phuentshogling.

Government’s pledges- an assessment

The Opposition says only 11 pledges of the government’s 34 pledges have been fulfilled, and not 25 as the People’s Democratic Party claims.  According to DPT, the fulfilment rate is only 26 percent and not 74 percent. DPT has dismissed few of the PDP government’s fulfilled pledges as those that have already been in existence.
