Students and teachers tested positive for Influenza A

Six students and five teachers of Chamgmey Primary School in Shongphu under Trashigang have tested positive for Influenza A.

LG members of Zhemgang against Lime mining

The third Dzongkhag Tshogdu of the first local government elect meeting are against the submission of the Lime mining proposals under Zhemgang Dzongkhag. The members said mining would destroy the pristine and lush green forest the Dzongkhag has. Moreover, they said some of the identified mining site fall under the jurisdiction of national wild life parks.

PHPA’s head-race tunnel complete

The Punatsangchhu-I hydroelectric project completed the excavation of the 8.9 kilometre head-race tunnel. The project officials say they have achieved a major milestone towards completion of the project.

Construction of Nangar-Ura highway resumes

The Nangar-Ura highway construction is back on track after many controversies and delays. The work was delayed for two years. But now the work is in full swing and about 61 percent of the construction has been complete. The new road to Ura from Bumthang will cut short 31 kilometres compared to the present Ura-Bumthang.

Boat, the lifeline of four gewogs

People wait for the boat on both sides of the Mao River. More people arrive and join them. The boat is pushed from the bank of the river by four ferrymen. While two ferrymen push the boat, the other two holds the rope tied to the boat. The rope acts like a brake pedal in a car.

Farmers to give hazelnut a second try

Many hazelnut saplings were distributed and planted in Pemagatshel last year. But the plants, much to the disappointment of the farmers, did not grow well. Even then, the farmers say, they are willing to give a second try.

Two men killed in accident

Two men were killed on the spot, when the truck they were travelling in went off road in Sarpang Dzongkhag today. The accident occurred at around 11:30 am at Bhandari Dangra, 20 kilometres from Gelephu towards Zhemgang. The body of both the handy boy and the driver have been found. Workers at the site said although the road was partially blocked, the driver forced his way through.

Yet another case of nutritional deficiency

Twelve students of Chapcha Middle Secondary School in Chhukha are suffering from nutritional deficiency. The officials from the Department of Public Health, who visited the school for investigation today, confirmed that it was the case of nutritional deficiency.

Tshogpas puts up resignation letters

Three Tshogpas elected during the local government elections have put up applications for resignation to the Election Commission of Bhutan. They are from Betso Doomchog Constituency in Haa, Tami Damchu Thang-Bjidemkhong in Punakha and Shompangkha Constiuency in Sarpang.

Bridge incomplete even after six years

The construction of a Bridge over Singyechhu along Pasakha-Manitar road in Phuentsholing began towards the end of 2006. The work, including extension periods, was supposed to be complete by last year.But today, six years on, the 140 feet long bridge is still incomplete. Even the construction works have been stalled.
