Simply Bhutan, a living museum inaugurated

Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Tshering Pem Wangchuck, inaugurated Simply Bhutan, the first ever living museum in the country today. Simply Bhutan is a depiction of Bhutan’s ancient cultural heritage and living ways of Bhutanese people in olden days.

Man mauled by a bear

A 55-year-old man was mauled by a bear on Thursday in Dorona Gewog in Dagana. The incident took place at around 1pm while he was looking for his cow. He was about a kilometre away from his house.

Vegetable production for commercial purpose

Farmers in Bhutan can grow varieties of vegetables but only a few of them market the produce. Sherubtse College penalises students for abusing alcohol

Sherubtse College terminated a student and suspended six students after they abused alcohol and broke the windshield of a car last week. Four shopkeepers were fined for selling alcohol illegally following a surprise raid by the Regional Trade and Industry office in Monggar.

Absence of garbage truck ails Damphu Hospital

In absence of a garbage truck, medical wastes generated by Damphu Hospital in Tsirang are being dumped and burnt within the hospital area. It has been more than a week since the garbage truck stopped coming to their vicinity.

Tashi Wangdi wins a bronze medal

His Royal Highness, Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, Gyaltshab and President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, met with the Chief Operations Officer of Royal Bhutan Army Major General Bato Tshering, to felicitate Master Tashi Wangdi who had won a bronze medal at the 5th Children of Asia International Sports Games. The event was held at Yakutsk in Russia last month. His coach, Gopa Tashi Phuntsho, was also felicitated.

Radio, a link with rest of the country

Children dancing to the songs on radio, a man ploughing his field on a sunny afternoon with the radio blaring in the background and when the sun goes down, parents and elderly people sitting huddled around the fire, waiting for the supper, as they narrate the day’s event with each other while the radio plays at backdrop, it’s volume a few notches down. These are typical scenes in any of the rural pockets of the country.

In the semi-finals match of the ongoing Yangphel Open Archery Tournament played at the Changlimithang archery range, today, Team Yul Gyel made to the final by defeating team Sonam Automobiles and team Ice Berg in upper bacho.

Shingkhar-Bardo farm road incomplete even after seven years

The construction of farm road from Buli to Bardo and Shingkhar gewogs in Zhemgang began in 2006.  But the works are far from complete even after almost seven years. The delay in the completion of the 65-kilometre farm road was raised during the third Dzongkhag Tshogdu held recently.
