Man detained for suspected attempt to rape
The Monggar police have detained a 57-year-old man suspected of attempting to rape his disabled daughter. The incident is said to have taken place at Changshing Pek in Monggar. The victim’s mother had reported to the matter to the police. The case is still under investigation.
Outstanding environmental stewardship award goes to…
Rebecca Pradhan, a Botanist and Raling Ngawang Drukdra, a plant specialist, received the second Jigme Singye Wangchuck outstanding environmental stewardship award. They were awarded cash prize of Nu. 100,000 each.
Bhutan observes the World Environment Day
A daylong event was held in Thimphu to mark the World Environment Day. Her Royal Highness, Princess Chimmi Yangzom Wangchuck, graced the occasion. Her Royal Highness walked from Lungtenzampa till the Clock tower square to kick start the day.
Water problem plagues Chiya village
The entire Chiya village in Udzorong Gewog under Trashigang depends on a pond nearby their daily water supply. The village which has 130 households has no access to clean drinking water. Chiya village is about forty kilometers away from Trashigang.
Help-Shoe-Bhutan launches it's second campaign

His Majesty attends Namgay Tongchoe and Neten Chudru prayers
His Majesty the King, Gyeltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials attended the Namgay Tongchoe and Neten Chudru prayers at the Kuenra of the Tashichhodzong this morning. The prayers were in keeping with the Buddha Parinirvana or the Duechen-Nga-Zom. It was on this day that the Buddha was conceived, born, gained enlightenment and attained Nirvana.
Gyaltsuen turns 22
Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck turns 22 today. Coinciding with the birth anniversary of Gyeltsuen, the three armed forces and members of the taxi association of Bhutan offered tashi khaddar and a birthday cake to Gyeltsuen at Lingkhana Palace in Thimphu.
Delay of monsoon in Trashigang worry farmers
Sonam Wangmo, a farmer in Trashigang looks up at the sky. It is clear and a bright day, just like yesterday and day before. She looks at her crops. They are all wilted and dying. For someone like Sonam Wangmo, who depends on the mercy of the nature for the survival of summer crops, the absence of rainfall means a major cut in her annual income.
Bhutan Education City starts to take shape
Bhutan Education City has completed three core activities, institutionalizing the governance structure, completion of bid process and signing of the memorandum of understandings with three of the world’s iconic institutes. “These are validation of the overall vision of what Education City in Bhutan should be all about,” said the DHI INFRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Kinga Tshering.
