Is Dzongkha publication in newspapers serving purpose?

It is mandatory for the English newspapers in the country to also have an equivalent edition in Dzongkha. This is one of the policy directives of the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority, BICMA, while issuing license to the newspapers and magazines. But has this mandate really helped in promoting the Dzongkha language.

The Jaagey Menchu of Paro

Tshachus and Menchus are quite popular in Bhutan. There are many located in various parts of the country. People soak in the Tshachu and Menchus because they believe that it can cure various diseases like arthritis, body aches and sinusitis. One of the many popular Menchus is the Jaagay Menchu in Paro.

150 households do not have Thram

About 150 households in Samtse do not have a Thram or land registration certificate in their name. Most of these households have got land under the resettlement scheme.

Deadline postponed, officials optimistic of new deadline

Lowering of Thorthomi Lake in Lunana by five metres in 2011 failed to meet its deadline. The project is delayed by a year. So far the lake is lowered by 3.86 metres.  However, the deadline is now postponed to the end of this year.

Trongsa Moenlam Chenmo concludes

The week-long Moenlam Chenmo in Trongsa ended yesterday. The ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo. It ended with a Tshepamey Wang. More 10,000 devotees from in and around the Dzongkhag gathered to receive the blessings.

Matrimonial cases top the lists

According to statistics from the Judiciary, matrimonial case always tops the list of civil cases. Last year alone, there were over 3,000 cases excluding the application for marriage certificates. And divorce cases seem to be rampant with many children forced to live with a single parent.

Thimphu court burglars arrested

Police in Thimphu arrested two suspects in connection to the Thimphu court burglary which took place on the night of January 2. The couple, 34 and 25, were arrested for breaking into the court and robbing Nu. 5,75000.

Two detained for using fake money

Police in Tsirang detained two men for illegally possessing counterfeit money. So far 13 numbers of Nu. 1,000 counterfeit notes were recovered from the accused and three from a shop.

A woman blackmailed on internet

Internet has lots to offer. Beside entertainment and information, it can also be a source of distress. For instance, a woman in her early thirties in Monggar, was blackmailed by her chat friend said to be from India.

4 houses gutted in Monggar

Four houses were gutted down by fire in Monggar yesterday. Three houses belonged to the temporary supporting staff of the Monggar Regional Referral Hospital. The cause of the fire was electric short circuit.
