Police in Tsirang detained two men for illegally possessing counterfeit money. So far 13 numbers of Nu. 1,000 counterfeit notes were recovered from the accused and three from a shop.
The accused, both brothers, from Tashiding Gewog in Dagana were arrested last night. The accused were trying to exchange the counterfeit money by buying some items from a shop in Tsirang when the shopkeeper discovered the fake notes.
The shopkeeper then informed the police. Bank officials in Damphu who checked the counterfeit notes said all most all the security features were missing from the notes.
Police are yet to establish the amount of counterfeit notes they brought in and how much they have exchanged so far.
