Another stabbing in Thimphu

A class X student of Samtse was stabbed in the area popularly known as Hongkong market in Thimphu yesterday. The incident took place at around 6:45 pm.

DPT rated well in promoting foreign relations and GNH

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), Bhutan’s ruling party, has been rated excellent in promoting foreign relation and Gross National Happiness. This was the finding of a study conducted by the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) in Thimphu. The report rated the DPT government poor in solving unemployment, addressing youth issues and private sector development. The study interviewed some 300 respondents in the capital.

More undergraduate scholarship this year

With the class XII results out, the scholarship and student support division announced that there are 232 slots for undergraduate scholarship slots this year. For the first time this year, students will get a chance to pursue their studies at a University in Malaysia.

Late Dungse Rinpoche’s Kudung arrives in Bhutan

The Kudung of late Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche arrived in Paro from New Delhi today. On arrival to Paro airport, the Kudung was received by Her Majesty Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck, National Assembly Speaker Jigme Tshultim, Finance Minister Wangdi Norbu and devotees.

Samtse residents faced with acute shortage of LPG

It is seven in the evening and people are still queued at the Bhutan Oil Distributor, BOD, depot to get the Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or LPG cooking gas. This has been the scene for quite some time now. Our reporter, Karma Wangdi, says that the people have to wait even months to get their cylinders refilled.

Energy Plus services for poor

A new report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), based on case studies in Asia and the Pacific, calls for a set of “energy plus” services. The report titled ‘Towards an Energy plus Approach for the Poor’ talks about access to modern energy required for heating, cooking and electricity for the people from the lower income group.
