Most of the farmers in Yangneer Geog in Trashigang left their farmland fallow in the past.

Towards poverty eradication

The Agriculture Ministry received152 power tillers under the KR- II grant on Thursday. The grant also includes accessories and spare parts worth 180 million Yen. The power tillers will soon be distributed to the farmers by the agriculture machinery centre in Paro.

Gorbagtang farm road risky

The farm road connecting Monggar highway to Gorbagtang is risky for motorists. This is mainly due to constant erosion caused by rainfall and no maintenance works.

Bus accident in Bumthang, passengers escape unhurt

A public transport bus travelling from Trashigang to Thimphu went off the road at Dungbithang in Bumthang at 12:45 am yesterday. Fortunately, most of the passengers escaped unhurt.

160 farm roads, 49 not usable

According to the report of the Public Accounts Committee, out of over 160 farm roads in the country some 49 are not usable. Lack of bridges and inadequate maintenance and improper alignment are some of the reasons. The government has spent over Nu. 200 millions in constructing these farm roads.

Increase in irregularities: PAC report

Presenting the Annual Audit Report 2009 in the joint sitting of the Parliament yesterday, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) indicated an increase in irregularities this year comparing to the last three years.

Khengpas in Yangneer

Khengpas or the Kheng-kha speakers are the people of Zhemgang, Dagana and some parts of Monggar. Many directly relate it to these regions when they come across people speaking Khengpas. However, the existence of Khengpas in Trashigang is not known to most of the people.

DPT government optimistic

The Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley said almost all the promises made by his government to alleviate poverty and to create employment will be met. Lyonchhen was presenting the State of the Nation Report to the joint sitting of the parliament yesterday.

Unemployment rate drops to 3.3%

Unemployment rate has dropped from 4 percent to 3.3 percent according to the latest labour force survey conducted under international norms and standards.
