Local leaders in Dagana singed a performance compact agreement with the Dzongkhag education sector on Friday. The performance compact was signed to accelerate development activities set under the compact.
One of the targets under the performance compact is to increase access to primary and secondary education to 100% and 75% by 2013. The current access to primary and secondary education in Dagana Dzongkhag stands at 96% and 40 percent only.
In order meet the set targets under the compact, the Dzongkhag administration is seeking the support of the local leaders. By involving local leaders, the Dzongkhag hopes to achieve the targets at a greater pace.
Compared to other Dzongkhags, schools in Dagana lack behind in terms of infrastructure.
The signing of the performance compact is in continuation to Education Ministry’s commitment to improve the overall learning system in the country.
The compact contains several targets including the need to refocus and accelerate development of the Bhutanese learning system based on the principles of GNH and to ensure that there are enough teachers.
