first-paper-lottery-scheme-hits-domestic-marketRoyal Bhutan Lottery Limited’s first paper lottery scheme hit the domestic market, today. The monthly lottery scheme is known as “Phuensum Dharim”.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay launched the lottery scheme in Phuentshogling.

The Prime Minister said the lottery business was revived to generate revenue to be used for social welfare.

“Once we start selling the lottery schemes in India from 2018, it will generate an income of Nu 366 M.”

During 2013 elections, People’s Democratic Party had pledged to restart lottery business.

The business was reinstated in April this year as one of the State Owned Enterprises.

Lyonchhen said just through the sale within the country, the lottery business is expected to make more than Nu 30 M by the end of next year.

The Royal Bhutan Lottery Limited also has plans to come up with weekly lottery and instant scratch card.

For better regulation, the lottery office is also formulating an act, Royal Bhutan Lottery Limited’s CEO Phenphay R. Drukpa, said.

“We are working on the act and plan to submit it to the government by mid of next year. Once endorsed, it will be convenient for us to market our lottery schemes anywhere in the world. Right now, with just an agreement, it’s difficult to control the business.”

The previous government had closed the lottery business in 2011 due to some legal issues while trading lottery outside the country.

It used to generate around Nu 220 M, annually.
